i have a new hero.
i can't recall if i've ever wondered this here, but if you've ever watched a Patriots game with me, you know that not a single home game passes that i don't ask, bewildered:
what *are* those things on the edges of the field?!
and then i speculate, aloud:
is it some kind of welding torch?
a wrench throwing sparks?
a musket of some sort that isn't working properly?
two cities at war?
some might think this just provides a little extra fun that never ends, to spend time trying to determine what those little images are supposed to be & how they pertain to the New England Patriots.
i assure you, it is not.
it's completely maddening.

today, while reading her blog, Ali has answered this fiercely burning question for me, because she is a genius, to whom i am forever grateful that i can finally stop being tortured by those stupid logos.

Thanks so much for clearing up the mystery of the "sparking wrench" design on the Patriots field. There were six of us up here in Alaska watching the game and speculating on those designs. Since none of us have been to Gillette Stadium we would never have guessed the "lighthouse and bridge". I googled "designs patriots field wrench sparks" this morning and was led to your blog. And, after reading about spam in the office and sniffing candles, I finally reached the information I was seeking (perhaps you need a scented candle in the office). Thanks you so much for enlightening us.
OMG. *Finally*. Finally that part of my brain can rest. HOW did you not share this with me?? How?? You know I could've had an aneurysm in the meantime, with all the brain cells chugging away every week trying to figure it out... :-P
