it must have all been a bad dream...

photos from Yahoo! Sports

1. i do not like Nick Swisher. he didn't even play last night. they just showed him in the dugout. he looks... like an unsavory character. there is a certain kind of unsavory character that comes to mind, but i don't want to put it on my blog, because i am afraid it will attract searches i don't want. suffice to say that every time i see him, it creeps me out.

2. why am i not surprised that Remy managed to spend the entire game revisiting the topic of Don's powder blue sport jacket & white pants.

3. my theory on Coco's bat, post tumble into the bullpen about ten days ago? well, you tell me. last night, he extended his hitting streak to seven games, over the course of which time, he has hit .393, going 11-for-28.

4. seeing Papi getting into a heated confrontation with the home plate umpire is as sure a way to give this girl a heart attack as seeing him slide. the last thing we need is our DH getting ejected! although .right now, we can always sub in Alex Cora. but still...

5. i am starting to think that Schill is actually *required* to give up one solo home run at some point during each game. it's cool though. he only lost his first outing. last night would have been another win too, but ended as a no-decision.

6. Oakland's manager got ejected last night, also for arguing a call with the home plate umpire. what i really found amusing was hearing Don (or was it Remy? forgot to make a note of that & now i don't remember. oops...) say that "Geren just got the heave-ho." heave-ho. ha.

7. Don (about Russ, their producer): Well, he *looks* normal.
Remy: Too bad we can't get a full body shot of what you're wearing, 'cause that's not normal.

8. the baseball gods *do* show mercy. it would seem that Gustavo Chacin was placed on the 15-day DL as of April 29. what this means to Sox fans: he will be unavailable to pitch until May 13. thus, will not be able to embarrass us when the Sox visit Toronto on May 8, 9 & 10. must be all those sacrificial ducks Papelbon has been offering up back there in the bullpen.

9. i am pretty sure i heard Don call Coco "Crifp" (*not* a typo!) during the seventh inning.

10. speaking of Coco. wow! another diving catch & he comes up with the ball. i am a little concerned though. i saw him working one of his shoulders quite a bit after that. he cannot be both diving super hero *and* made of glass. that combination just does not work.

11. ::blink:: what is this you speak of? Papelbon blew a save? ::blink:: i do not understand. i guess when we aren't used to such things, they do not make any sense to us when they occur. i am not sure what caused this anomaly -- not *enough* use? just a bad game? something else, which i do not even *dare* to actually put into words? the usual zip on his fastball was missing & that pop it gets at the end was non-existent -- but i thought he was going to cry when he watched that ball leave the park.

12. discovery: putting the game on the bat in Julio Lugo's hands actually makes me feel sick.

13. i know it's indicative of the fear Alex Cora has put into other teams, but it severely ticked me off when they intentionally walked him in the tenth.

14. hay Bart? i now directly feel your pain from last week. ugh, i hate Oakland.

15. would someone please explain to me how no matter where we put Youk in the line up, he always manages to be at the plate for the last out of a game? that's just... it's not fair. not that he always makes the last out. but he did last night. on a looooong fly ball that would have driven in Alex Cora from second to tie the game up again if it had just been about two inches higher & out of the reach of Oakland's left fielder. it is heart wrenching to see Youk when he does anything but get on base. he is so self-critical.

life is just so much better when we see Youk happy...

16. i can't believe how far i've come since last year, but my affection for Julian Tavarez is official with this statement: "I’m just taking one day at a time and I’m ready for anything. I’ll do anything. If they say clean the office I’ll go clean the office. As long as I have my uniform I’m a member of the Red Sox." (Boston Herald)

17. it looks like it will be a while longer before we see Jon Lester back in Boston. and you know what? i'm ok with that. he needs to build back his strength & stamina. and i don't want him to come back too soon & have it affect him *mentally* either. plus, i am not ready to send Julian back to the pen just yet. Jon will be back. and when he does, he's going to be a key part of the rotation, i'm sure of it. but i don't want to jump the gun, bring him back before he's ready, and have repercussions. i mean, he did just beat *cancer* and all.

18. now Hughes joins Mussina, Katsens & Pavano as another Yankee starting pitcher on the DL, and they only just got Wang back a week ago.

i am having flashbacks to 2006. ::shudder:: if this were *any* other team, i would truly feel bad for them. please note though: i am still *not* laughing. i really hope we didn't catch those cooties when we were in NY last week.

19. Joshy against the (stupid) Athletics tonight. can he... never mind. i am not going to say it & be responsible for *that* jinx.

It was 4-1 late! What happened?! Sheesh....looks like I picked a bad night to start watching Police Squad! reruns on DVD.

Someone on DanShanoff.com pointed out (at my request) that when Paps gives up a run, it's always a bad ending. Apparently, he's given up runs in 8 appearances the past 2 years. 6 blown saves, one loss, and one hold. So there's no in-between where he gives up a run in a 4-1 game and still gets the save.

in the 7th, somoene hit a sac fly to make the score 4-2. then Papelbon came in for the 9th & gave up a 2-run blast to tie it. in the 10th Piazza scored on someone else's double. and there you have it. after that bad forst inning, Blanton settled & we really really didn't do much.

My pain now goes way beyond that Oakland series...

Oh, and (I think so anyway, it's someone on the A's) Swisher's unsavory look is not too bad since it's for Locks for Love.

while i could respect Locks for Love, it's his face that creeps me out, more than his hair. he has the look of a... ::shiver::

The White Sox are completely dismal right now. A .500 record and hitting an MLB worst .210 (yes, .210) as a team. Their starter have more quality starts than any team in the league and their bullpen has the 3rd best ERA behind MN and SD. Garbage!

I forget if it's because I get the Sunday Globe delivered to the house, but I'm able to get a daily email with all the stories on the game. They used to do a weekly report card, but I've not seen one of those this year.

2. Was this this original mention of it? Where did this stylish look come from?

7. BAHAHAHAHAHAAA!!!!

8. Now where did this duck thing start. I'm *so* out of the loop here...

10. *fiber*glass. Light and resilient!!!

13. Not only is it indicative of fearing Cora, but it also lets us know that everyone *else* know what a non-threat Lugo is offensively. Add that to his defensive performance and I'm left wondering why Cora is not playing SS yet. :-P

17. He can take all the time he needs. We'll be happy to have him when he's healthy, but at the moment we're... uh... all set. ;-)

19. Glad you didn't say it, cuz I would have totally blamed you. Well, not totally. ;-)
