O's swept the Blue Jay's, too. Of course, nobody notices that because neither of the names are Yankees or Red Sox, and that's what it takes to get some national love in April. :D

take it easy there, Bart. ;-) it's early for me yet. you know Sox celebration is first & foremost here. that cannot be helped. big congrats to the Os for their weekend sweep of the Jays & the Angels for sweeping the Mariners. see? i pay attention.

you have to give me Sox-Yankees sweep celebration though. you know that's enjoyable to see happen, no matter which team you follow (barring the EE of course), no matter who does it. a sweep of the Yankees by *anyone* is a cause for joy!

ooh there were shouts of joy coming from my home all weekend long!! What a wonderful weekend it was!

Dawn, you have to remember that a lot of us other team fans consider Red Sox fans to be just as, if not more, obnoxious. Especially since the WS win. You're okay, maybe by virtue of not actually being in Boston (remind me to tell you about the transplanted Bostonian that I used to live in the same building as some day), and I know several other fans that are good, but man alive...

So, when you factor that in, a great many people just wish the Red Sox/Yankees series would just go away.

Personally, I like the Sox more than I like NY, but at the same time, not that much. AL East and all. But if it absolutely HAS to be either/or, I'd go with the Sox, no contest. Even over the Blue Jays, but that comes from the resentment of the early to mid 90s (I STILL hate Cito Gaston). But not the D'Rays. If they ever put it together, I'd probably be in their corner if the O's were dogging it.

Sox were 1 out away from sweeping the Kittens and they blew it. Argh.

Bart: hmmm... i guess i am a fan of baseball, more than "just being a Red Sox fan." they are my first love, born & raised that way, not by bandwagon-ing. but i enjoy & appreciate good ball.

things like wearing the uniform correctly. good defense. jaw-dropping pitching. team loyalty. playing small ball offense. true talent. no-hitters. complete games. not being afraid to get dirty. the unmistakable CRACK of bat-on-ball that can *only* mean a home run (the sound even more than the actual home run itself). ball parks with history -- and without a "commercial" in their name.

that being said, there are very few teams i truly dislike. the Yankees. the Athletics. and the Devil Rays. (you might have to live down here to understand my hatred for the Rays. it's not just them -- it's the Bucs & the Lightning, as well. the local sports media is enough to make one hate all the teams down here.) i really have more specific things i hate: the way Manny wears his uniform. not just watching your home run leave the park, but being arrogant about doing so. Barry Bonds. domes (or at least those that don't even bother to have retractable roofs). Johnny Damon in pinstripes.

i know that the Sox are "the other team everyone loves to hate." but i don't like them simply because they are another big-money, high-profile team. they have been *my* team for my entire life, my father's team, and my grandfather's team. i got to see the one thing my Gramp lived literally his whole life (1918-2003) without ever seeing. and when the Yankees come to town, i could care less about all the hype & the circus. not a single media outlet could breathe a word of it & i would still be just as fired up, purely because i was raised on that rivalry. that Sox *must* beat Yankees.

i know i am probably equally obnoxious about my team here on my blog, but i hope that my appreciation for the game of baseball is at least somewhat redeeming.

Dan: i saw that. =( i kept my jubilation out of your inbox, out of respect, because nothing is worse, as a fan, than losing a game like that. heartbreaking.

Like I said, you come off much better.

But you'd be ashamed of some your brethren if you ever made it up to Camden Yards for a Sox/O's series.

i am frequently embarrassed by a lot of what i see from Sox fans. i try to believe that they are the bandwagon fans... =/
