Dawn's Thursday Thirteen, Edition Thirty: cool stuff

Thirteen Online Recommendatations

1) Picasa: i love this photo program. it organizes, adjusts, emails, even backs up all your photos. you can make slide shows & screen savers. and best of all? totally free.

2) Gmail: i had a Hotmail account for years. was never tempted to try Yahoo or any of the other free email providers. got an invitation for Gmail when it was still very new. i *love* it. i would never switch back. and you don't even need an invitation to get a Gmail account anymore. just head on over to the site & sign yourself up.

3) Kaboodle: this is one of the best wishlist site's i've found. you download a button for your toolbar & when you are on a webpage & see something you want, you click the button & it's placed on your wish list, just like that. doesn't matter which website. everything you could ever want on a wishlist, all in one place. no more having site exclusive wishlists, scattered all over the internet.

4) Blogger: i have tried out a couple of the other free blog hosts & this one is by far the most user friendly for novices & easily customizable for more advanced bloggers. i love Blogger. i can't see myself switching.

5) imeem: this is such a cool site if you're a music lover. you can build playlists, upload your own music, check out new music, and as you can see by the player up above, you can share music too. all legally.

6) blurb: this may be one of my best finds. ever wonder how you can save your blog? slurp it up on blurb & they will actually print it up for you, for a reasonable price, in a book-store quality book. not only that? you can print your photos right into books too. this site *rocks*.

7) Bloglines: this is the best tool for keeping track of blogs you read or any other site that has an RSS feed. it's all in one place & you just check one spot & are alerted any time one of the sites is updated.

8) Clipmarks: this is my most recent discovery. it's very cool. you download a little tool that allows you to "bookmark" just bits & pieces of webpages. ever find a quote you really like? a recipe? a portion of an online article that you want to come back to later? this allows you to clip just the pieces you want & come back to them later, instead of bookmarking whole webpages & then trying to hunt down the pieces you want when you come back to them.

9) color palette generator: this is a neat tool if you create your own blog designs. you take the photo you want to use for your header, upload it & it creates a color palette derived from your photo using the colors it picks up!

10) color scheme tool: this is similar to the previous tool, in that it gives you a color palette with the html codes, but for this one you plug in a color code or choose a color, then it will give you a palette that is coordinates or is monochromatic, lighter, darker. i use this tool quite a bit when i am changing the look on my blog.

11) lab pixies gadgets: this is fun site. there are calendars, clocks, games, weather forecasts. all kinds of fun little add-ons for your blog or website!

12) Thesaurus.com: i use this resource quite a bit when i am writing. plug in a word & it gives you all kind of alternatives. one click of a button brings you to a dictionary. this is one of my most used resources.

13) Wikipedia: if you haven't checked this out yet, it's so useful. encyclopedia at your fingertips! i bet i use it at least once a day!
