can you feel the love tonight?

photo from ESPN.com

ok so i forgot my notes from last night's game at home so i am late getting up my thoughts. so late, in fact, that another game has already happened. but i won't be getting to that til tomorrow. =P right now, it's all about Wakabelli in Canada.

1. i realized that i actually cringe each time the ball gets hit up the middle. without fail. i never did that when Alex Gonzalez, the human vacuum, played short. Julio Lugo makes me that nervous.

2. Wakey really does get love from the bats this year!! solo home runs from Lowell, Dougie & Papi. it would have taken a dozen games for that to accumulate last season!

3. Doug Mirabelli is second to only David Ortiz for most homers hit by a Red Sock in 2007. the Stud Who Hits Bombs is back! how *you* doin'??

4. still with all the hugging!! what is going on in Boston?! it's like we're afraid someone is going to end up with the A-Rod complex or something. =P now don't get me wrong. there are certainly times that i want to hug Papi for his contributions. and it's not like Wakey is icky or anything. it's just... all the hugging is just getting weird! maybe they think if they hug each other, no one will get hugged by Julian...

...but what's wrong with a handshake...

...or even this. i would even take the dumb, overused fist bump. just... ease up on the hugging boys. this isn't Alex Rodriguez everybody-loves-you therapy hour.

5. someone is having fun at Julian's expense. i mean, we all know he's not the... cutest member of the team, but he *really* seems to get the short end of the stick for team photos. and last year's is actually better than...

...this year's.

6. speaking of bad photos. i take a secret pleasure in photos that make Jeter look doofy. (please take note though: i am *not* laughing.)

7. i wore my Magic Red Sox shirt last night. as you can see, it worked. i have learned my lesson.

8. coolest Remy & Don quote from the game, just after JD Drew's seventh inning single: "That's the first hit this game for the Sox that was not a home run."

9. coolest post game quote: "Awesome. When I grow up, I'm going to be just like him." (Mike Timlin about Wake)

10. it really ticks me off when Manny doesn't make an effort. when he stops running in to make a catch, and plays it on the hop instead. and when he doesn't fire it right back into the infield, but delays & a run scores? drives me out of my freaking mind.

11. check out Wake's stats: 2-1 record. 20 innings pitched. 1.35 ERA.

12. observation: does Jon only make his trademark pitching face for Tek? Dougie was catching last night & there was no sign of it...

13. we all know that Jon is coming out with the intent of smoking every batter he faces. that being said, Dougie sure does flash a lot of signs for nothing but heat,

14. oh boy... Julian tomorrow... please, *please* let there be bats...

5 with their own thoughts:

One of the best things about my Boston trip last year was Fenway Park, sitting only 7 rows from the field along 3rd base. Great TT13! Mines up at http://anyapples.blogspot.com/
Oh, and they won that game ;)

We regret to inform you that there is only one Human Vacuum and it sure isn't Alex Gonzalez. Please be mindful of this error in the future.

Thank you.
Cooperstown, on behalf of Brooks Robinson.

Jennifer: sorry about my boys beating your boys... well... sort of sorry anyway. ;-)

FRIGGA: so. jealous.

Bart: i would never disrespect Brooks Robinson. i was referring to active players. i don't care what anyone says, out of all the starting SSs in MLB right now, i haven't seen anyone gobble up the ball so beautifully or consistently as Alex Gonzalez. man, i miss him...

2. Whaaa????? Dougie hit *another* home run? No. freaking. way.

4. The hugging is kinda weird, but only because I haven't seen it before from them. then again, we hug a lot out here... everybody *does* love them! and not in an a-rod kinda way.

5. he's got two strikes against him. he's not got a lot of... shall we say... conventional beauty *and* it appears as if he's not photogenic.

10. freaking manny. I'm running out of tolerance for this crap, especially since he can't deliver offensively, either. :-P
