Wild Card Weekend wrap up
just some random thoughts & comments i had during the non-Patriot games this weekend...
1. is it wrong that even though Ty Law no longer plays for New England, i still find it indescribably funny that Peyton thinks Ty is one of his receivers? and not once, but twice! =P
2. OMG that Manning Spawn home video with Peyton getting hit by one of his brothers & then running away crying. that may be one of the funniest things i have seen all season!
3. in text with Daniel, while watching the playoff games on opposite coasts, the term "sportshole" was coined. i cannot take credit for this ingenious term, but i bet i don't have to tell you its origin! please watch for future references in this post as proof.
4. what was the deal with Peyton's comment about Ty Law in his post game field interview?? "He's a great player, but it looks like the COLTS won." i'm sorry, but that tone of voice combined with the snide remark did *nothing* to win me over, Peyton. you have to admit, it's fair game to be asked about Ty Law intercepting you twice, especially when he's done so *seven* other times over the course of your meeting on the field!
5. Sportshole Comment #1: "The Colts *want* to meet the Patriots in Indianapolis." uh. bonehead. no, they *don't*. Tom Brady is undefeated in a dome. and 11-1 in the playoffs. i am sure they would rather play in Foxboro, where (unofrtunately) the Colts seem to have had the edge the last two times these teams met. if anyone would relish a trip to Indy, it would be the Patriots.
6. Sportshole Comment #2: "Peyton Manning is such an unselfish quarter back." excuse me while i laugh, but he is anything but unselfish. doesn't he claim something like 20% of the team's salary cap?? and i have yet to see him take responsibility for any errors he makes on the field.
7. which leads me to Sportshole Comment #3: "Peyton will thank his team for carrying him today." the hell he will! if someone can show me where he sincerely gives the team credit & takes responsibility for a shaky game, i will gladly eat my words.
8. does anyone else think that Herm Edwards & Tony Dungy look eerily alike?? it was almost creepy to see them hug after the game ended!
9. i really like Jermone Bettis as a sports commentator.
10. second funniest moment during the playoff games: the Diet Pepsi commercial with all the NFL clips, with voices dubbed over, all talking about Diet Pepsi. yeah, i know. i'm really not doing it justice. just watch for the commercial.
11. i also like liked ex-Falcons coach Jim Mora with a seat on the panel for the pre-game & halftime shows. he made some smart comments, even if he was a little unpolished. i really hope another team snaps him up as a head coach. maybe a team with a *real* QB this time.
12. Sportshole Comment #4: "There's no tougher quarter back in the NFL to confuse than Peyton Manning." really. unless you're Ty Law, right? seriously. even i will say that he's a very good QB. but the *toughest* to confuse? there are *no* other QBs out there right now that might be at least *as* tough to confuse? idiots.
13. i honestly couldn't tell you who made the other dumb comments without going back & watching the games again. i was so annoyed by what i was hearing that i didn't even pay attention to which moron was flapping his gums at the time, but Sportshole Comment #5 belongs entirely to John Madden: "Doesn't it just feel like playoff football?" well, John, correct me if i'm wrong, but wouldn't that because it *is* playoff football?!
14. the best (non-Patriot) game all weekend was the Cowboys-Seahawks match up. what an intense game! talk about coming down to the wire!
15. i felt *horrible* for Tony Romo. he deserved to cry. i would have.
and to clarify: it's ok, in my book, to cry in a playoff game when you just lost the game for your team, when the tears are acknowledgment of your own errors, not a tantrum that will turn into finger-pointing later on.
16. i think it's cruel & unusual punishment to be subjected to Joe Buck, not only during baseball season, but also during football season. what the hell is that about?
17. i don't think i could have possibly cared less about the Eagles-Giants game. i couldn't pick a team to root for, because, quite frankly, i dislike them both. for every reason i could think of to root for one over the other, i had just as many reasons *not* to: the Giants have Tiki Barber & Jay Feeley, both of whom i like, and Jeremy Shockey, who, even though he is a punk, is a lot of fun to watch play because he goes out there with so much enthusiasm & fire.
the Giants are also a NY team (and you should know by now how i feel about NY teams!) *and* they have the Younger Manning Doofus Spawn (who i like only marginally better than his big brother). i really like Akers, the Eagles kicker, because he showed a lot of heart last year, kicking while really injured & i respect that. and i do enjoy seeing Garcia do well as the stand-in QB. but the thought of Donovan McNabb still irritates me like you wouldn't believe. which brings me back to the fact that i really didn't care about this game so it was a good time for a nap. =P
18. the one thing i *do* remember from the Eagles-Giants game was the double penalty when the Eagles guy shoved the Giants defender, knocking him to the ground, so the Giants shoved back & knocked the pushy Eagles player into an official. oops. even though the Giants essentially forfeited a 15-yard gain by taking their own penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct, i bet that felt good!
19. and finally, one thought from the Patriots-Jets game (but it's not about New England). am i crazy or do Chad Pennington & linebacker Brad Kassell not look like they could be brothers?? hell, even their names rhyme! all i know is i saw Brad bleeding on the bench late in the game & thought it was Chad until i saw this photo with Brad's name attached to it!
1 with their own thoughts:
Don't worry Dawn, I don't take it personally :-)
(And anyway, I'm only cheering on the Eagles in support of the hubby. My guys took themselves out of the play-offs long before the season ended.)
