who's counting?

not too long ago, i answered a question in another blog post about using turn signals and how it irritates the ever loving snot out of me that people find them optional. on a whim, as i drove home from work yesterday, i counted the number of instances a turn signal should have been used but wasn't. for the sake of perspective, my commute is just under ten miles.

i counted FORTY-ONE instances a signal was not used & should have been, whether changing lanes, making a turn or merging into traffic. and i am certain i didn't see all of them.

seriously.

That is insane! You are so right about this. People really feel it is optional and then jump right in front of me. And by "jump" I mean swerve in and almost take me off the road.

hilarious! well, not the lack of usage, but that you counted. people are idiots. i think that's my motto for the day as i've already typed it out one other time.

i tend to count the pairs of NIKE shorts I see on the little college girls around here. I walk maybe 100 yards to another building and see at least 15-20 girls wearing them. not sure what the craze is all about.

HUGE pet peeve of mine... another is people who DON:T turn them off afterwards... following someone who has that stupid blinking light on for miles is mind numbing!

I'm with you on that-- and isn't "failure to signal" a ticketable offense? Maybe it varies from state to state and sure it's a minor traffic violation, usually as a pile-on ticket especially in the case of an accident.

What a great performance by Papelbon last night!

Yeah, I agree completely. It bugs me especially when i am trying to make a left and can't make that turn when people don't use signals. not that I'd trust it even if they did, but still...
Go Sox!! :)

Okay, so like you live in Florida, right? Were they all old people who forgot to use them or what? What's up with that?

Glad I'm not the only one who counts things like this. Like yesterday I counted how many carts were just sitting haphazardly around the grocery store parking lot. Seven that I could see just looking straight ahead. One *right next* to the cart rack thingy. Ugh.

"irritates the ever loving snot out of me" ... now, other than my mother, and, because I grew up hearing her say it, ME ... I've never heard anyone else use this phrase. Your post just got a giggle out of me! Love your blog!

sunshinemeg: That irks me so much. And then they look at you like it's your fault for being there!!

K: I got curious. It felt like a lot but I thought maybe I was over reacting in my mind. So I counted. Turns out? It was worse than I thought. =P

Keri: Not to mention, you don't know when or if they will slam on their brakes & actually turn without warning. Because the constant blinking kind of negates the fact that it's on.

Redbeard: It is. And if I were a police officer, I swear I would ticket every one I saw. Just to make the point. It's not like it's *so* difficult to do, ya know? I bet we can count on one hand the number of times we could say that about Papelbum in 2009. =/

Kim: I know what you mean about that too!

Pat: I wish that were the issue. Or even tourists. This is just stabdard everyday local drivers. Young. Old. Doesn't seem to matter down here.

em: You know, I want to laugh, but I feel the same way!! How can you not walk two spaces over to put your cart there?! OR walk all that way just to leave it NEXT TO THE RACK??? No, you are definitely not alone in the counting. Sometimes I just have to satisfy the curiosity. =P

Carolina Girl: Say it all the time. LOL! Thanks for stopping by! =)

Rats. I knew I was going to miss one.

Rachel: Long? Less than ten miles. =P
