on Boston sports...hanging in limbo...hope for the common man...and a i had a dream

well...6-2. no complaints here. still in first place in the AL East. i know the consensus is to blame Wells but to be honest, there was just no hitting at all in last night's game. not even from old reliables like Tek or Manny. the biggest problem was that the pitching sure didn't help matters. i hope Boomer finds his groove soon. and this little bit from Surviving Grady cracks me the heck up: I'd like to be the 3,482nd person to officially point out that more than a week into the season, Bronson Arroyo has two more home runs than Manny Ramirez. Sorry, I just think that's the friggin' funniest thing ever. Who knew we had a sleeping HR hitter in the rotation huh? too bad we let him go for "I'll Swing At Any Pitch You Throw" Pena...And we've gone Cuckoo for Coco Crisp--and signed a 3-year contract extension. from what i've seen so far, i'm pleased. as long as this early trip to the DL isn't a foreboding of what's to come...

finally, FINALLY! the Patriots organization has screwed its head on straight & started thinking about working out some deals with current team members. *before* they become free agents & we lose another dozen guys that took the field the previous season. a 4-year contract extenstion for Richard Seymour sounds darn good to me. he earned a little more of my respect too by saying: "I was never interested in who's the highest-paid player," Seymour said. "At the end of the day, I'm not going to spend all this money anyway. A lot of it is just a bunch of zeros. My concern was always just that I be compensated fairly for the things I do on the football field. We came to an agreement on that. There was give and take on both sides." (please don't ruin my happiness by telling me he was probably reading a carefully scripted line...just let me be delusional & believe that he was sincere, mmm-kay?) kind of curious where these meetings between Ty Law & Bill Belichick might lead too...

in other football news (or lack there of in this case)...and you know this pains me to say it...but it's really & truly time for Brett Favre to make a decision. i know he's struggling with it, you can see it plain as day, but really...it's time. his family, his fans, his team...they've been waiting patiently & supporting him every step of the way. i think we'd all understand whichever way he goes with his decision. we just need to get to that place so we know what comes next. us...but most of all HIM. i know every great athlete believes he has just *one more* great season left. and therein lies the greatest battle--fear of giving it up too soon. i don't know if he owes it to the Pack to come back for 2006 or to bow out at this point. on the one hand, they've lost the chance to pick up free agents to better to the team because they couldn't promote any QB and they've also lost the chance to pick up one of the veteran free agent QBs to help back a very inexperienced Rivers. he almost owes them this last season for the losses they've suffered leaving his career fate up to only him. and no one can really expect a brand new head coach to step into the picture & cut Favre, The. Brett. Favre., as his first line of business. that would be career suicide in Green Bay. on the other hand, maybe he's wavered so much that it's time he leaves them to put Rivers in, trial by fire & see what he's made of, to step away quietly. i just don't know. but the media has been so unforgiving of his indecision that it makes me sad to see someone who should go out with honor & accolades ending his career with criticism & snide remarks.

all this drama over Greg Biffle's girlfriend getting up in Kurt Busch's fiancee's face over Busch taking Biffle out of last Sunday's race. Biffle's girlfriend is getting reprimanded. blah blah blah. can't have this sort of catfighting being allowed in the public eye. blah blah and more blah. the only long term effect of this "incident" (which by the way, i totally see why Biffle's girlfriend was upset & had something to say, woman to woman) is that these 2 clowns got their women in the media spotlight & now every common man in America who watches a sports clip on tv suddenly has rekindled the hope that he too might somehow land a babe way WAY out of his league.

see what i mean?? how on earth did those 2 guys end up with those 2 girls?!

and last but not least, i must thank Michelle--not to be confused with Michelle (who finally blogged, TWICE in the last 24 hours!) or Michele (with 1 L)--but Michelle who gets me wound up on football commentary & talks a whole lot of Manning trash with me, who so kindly implanted thoughts of Chad Johnson & endzone dancs in my head late last night...which is the only way i can construe that i dreamt Chad Johnson had a huge spinning recliner installed in the endzone to the side of the uprights for his next TD celebration. i don't know what's more disturbing: that i dreamt about Chad Johnson or about ridiculous endzone antics.

6 with their own thoughts:

LOL @ "catfight"... I'm thinking of that Seinfeld episode where Elaine is cat-fighting with her co-worker (Molly Shannon) because she (Molly Sannon) won't swing her arms when she walks. Kramer and Jerry are talking about it and Krammer's like "Yeayeayea ca-ca-ca-cat fight!" ROFL

And as for how those guys ended up with those guys... well, maybe we just can't see the reason... *elbow and a wink* KWIM? *more wink* ROFL

Sorry, I'm in a weird mood today... LOL

wHEW! That is quite the post... I personally, being the GB girl I am, think Brett will come back. He just isn't ready to retire. More than anything this has been a media story. They have been trying to drum up a retiremetn for Favre for years...leave the guy alone. Let him play ball.

Love your take on the NASCAR girls... totally agree.
