Monday Stream of Consciousness: February 22, 2010

i am tired. that bone-aching, muscle-aching, eyeball-aching tired you get when you force yourself to stay awake past your body's desire to do so. i stayed awake to watch the ice dancing medal ceremony. which is beyond foolish since i've done nothing but poke fun at ice dancing for the last three nights. (figure skating, i get. ice dancing bewilders me.) but here's the thing. the American kids that won silver & the Canadian kids who won gold are so adorable. they are so genuinely thrilled for each other--friends who train at the same facility in Michigan, under the same coach, though they skate for different countries--and they're so excited, beaming & bouncing around in the hallway outside the rink, and then across the ice & onto the podiums. i'm glad i forced myself to stay awake. even though i most enjoy when it's the Star Spangled Banner being played as the flags are raised, there is something endearing about watching those two kids from Canada grinning & singing the words to their national anthem. the joy is apparent. they aren't stone-faced. this is their first Olympics & seeing them soaking it all in is something worth stay awake to watch.

K: It was probably the best non-USA medal ceremony I recall seeing. =) Just very feel-good. They showed it again on the Today Show this morning & I bet it will be on ESPN tonight too. I bet you can also find some video somewhere online. It's worth it. =)

Nichole: If you haven't seen this one yet, it's worth it when you do! It was such a feel-good moment, watching them.
