oh where, oh where have our baseball bats gone?
oh where, oh where can they be?
i do not understand how we were hitting everything in sight before The Epidemic and now? we look like we couldn't hit a ball off a tee. what the heck?? i know that AJ Burnett is 5-0 against us now, but you would think we could have mustered up at least one run. not to mention it would be nice to find our hitting groove what with Tampa rolling into town tonight. i don't think i can stomach another sweep by that team and their smug fans with their pristine (from lack of use) "sweep" brooms. especially at home.
and i do not buy into the "we need a sultry Summer night to get those balls out of the yard" theory, because it didn't look like Alex Rios had any trouble getting one into the Monstah.
hmmm. it seems i don't know how to end this post gracefully. which is fitting when you consider the awkward ending to the game itself. fly out called balk? what?
(Yahoo! Sports)
i continue to raise high my "Lowrie for SS!" placard. because even though he K'd, as the potential tying run, to end the game, i truly thought that call on the phantom balk was bogus and we had already lost the game several minutes earlier. that K set the record straight. and hopefully put an end to the craziness.
bring those bats tonight, boys. unlike the bizarre set up Toronto calls a shift, Joe Maddon invented the darn thing and i have a feeling Papi won't be squeaking out those hits against Tampa unless he sends them into the bleacher seats. Edwin Jackson is our best bet against those pesky Sunbeams, what with James Shields pitching on Saturday and Scott Kazmir rearing his ugly head for his season debut on Sunday, of course just in time to torment us, as only he can. (the only saving grace is that i *do* have him on my Fantasy Baseball team & we all know what a curse that has proven to be...)
if we cannot pull off a win tonight, the Rays regain first place in the division. unacceptable. jumpstart the bats STAT!
4 with their own thoughts:
Nichole: Our problem hasn't been so much starting pitching as bullpen implosion & non-existent offense. Clay & Beckett both had great starts in Tampa (Clay had a 1-hitter going into the 8th and Beckett had a career-high 13 Ks) and yet we still lost, just like last night when Wake had a respectable start but the bats just did not help him out at *all*. Even our two wins on Tuesday & Wednesday for Matsuzaka & Lester we won on sheer luck at the very last possible moment.
Lowrie hasn't sold me yet. I know it's just your typical Dawn ANTI-JFL platform!!
although come to think of it, Lugo's residing on my fantasy pine....
Sorry I haven't been by; the flu hit me hard Friday morning. After the last Blue Jay game, the boys have been on fire, no?
Even Lugo. ;)
Brian: If only he were riding pine in reality...
