Very true. Isn't this what we are doing with the subprime mortgage "bailout"? Foolish people who bought more house than they could afford and/or didn't read what their mortgage actually meant will be shielded from their folly. Foolish lenders who lent to people who were bad credit risks will also be shielded from their folly.
