maybe it's better that i didn't watch

i only saw the first couple of innings of yesterday's game before we left to see the Angels play ythe Rangers. when i powered down the tv, the Sox were up 2-0. we hadn't even reached Angel Stadium yet when Nichole texted me that the Orioles were up 3-2. by the time the scoreboard started showing scores in the other games, it was 9-4 in the seventh inning.

i'm not going to lie. my stomach sunk. Wakey had been scratched with, what else? a sore back. what the hell...? is this contagious?! first Manny. then Kielty. now Wake? and then JD Drew fouls a ball off his foot & he's out of the game so Kielty goes out tentatively, to see if he can handle playing. my worst fear was that JFL was going to end up playing outfield for us because we were out of players. and it didn't matter where they put him -- tricky right field or left field with the Monster spitting the balls hit off it with all the predictability of a knuckleball -- it couldn't possibly have turned into anything short of a disaster.

but it appears they muddled through. and with one eye on the game in front of me, and the other on the Boston score, i saw my boys slowly climb out of the hole they had dig. four became six. and then seven. and even though the Sox just dropped their fourth (??) consecutive game, they managed to do it 9-8. so what this tells me is that finally we're scoring runs we had bats. we brought them late. we tried to mount a comeback.

oh yeah. this sense of calm? that's all because the Yankees lost to Tampa in the Bronx. 9-1. we still have our five game lead. but for crying out loud. we need a win before things get ugly. ok, uglier. (more ugly? hmmm... no spellcheck available because i'm on a Mac and Blogger doesn't like Mac...)

anyway. Spetember 1 brings expanded roster. reinforcments. help. whew. sort of. i hope Clay Buchholz is ready for this because surprise! you're starting today kid.

please make sure your seatbelts are fastened, and keep all arms, hands, feet, and legs inside the vehicle at all times. this looks to be a bumpy ride ahead, folks.
