Patriots game scares me. Packers game depresses me (yes already). Red Sox make me nervous. maybe Jr will at least have a good race in Talladega today?

bummer

that photo about sums it up. no AL East Division Championship for Boston this year. still in the run for the AL Wildcard slot but still...playoffs don't feel promising even if they get there unless they step up their level of play...or rather PITCHING. even if the Red Sox win Sunday's game, the Yankess have already clinched the AL East. see that standings board below? they could end the season tied but still can't win the division because the Yankees record over the Sox this year was 10-8 (blah...)--a division tie was supposed to have been decided by a one-game "play off" to determine the Division Champion but now I guess someone changed that to making the champion determination based on the season record--which at best could be 10-9. one lousy game. oh well...that didn't matter last year...right...? when it all came down to just one game...*fingers crossed* tell me when it's safe to look...

Sunday morning nerves

i've neard too many Patriots fans discount this week's match up with the Chargers. i think their heads must be buried in the proverbial sand or something because quite frankly, San Diego scares me. the whole schedule scares me to be honest. when they aren't playing a tough team, they're playing a team that seems to win the games it ought to lose. right down to the season closer against Miami. at least it's not IN Miami...

at this point i don't care HOW they win even if it's by a point as the clock ticks to 0:00.

as much as it scares me to watch this game, i think we're heading over to Beef O'Brady's to do just that since we won't be getting that game here at home. i just hope they don't play in a way that ruins my lunch...

Week 4 insecurities

for anyone keeping track, i've *almost* finished my picks for the week.

makes me feel rather ill to have to keep picking the Bucs to win & the Packers to lose. don't think i'll ever accept that as a weekly occurance. *sigh*

thank God the Patriots appear to have rallied & pulled it together yet again even with another injury-laden defense--and Ken told me there are rumors of Bruschi coming back *this* year now which i have extremely mixed feelings about: on the one hand, his absence has made me uneasy long before the season kicked off & the defense is BADLY in need...but my biggest fear in his early return is that it is premature & it would be a terrible thing to find out too late that he should have sidelined it for the season like he planned to do--i can't shake the feeling that the risk of ending his career (or God forbid worse...) just isn't worth it.

speaking of uneasy, i've settled on a few picks for Week 4 that aren't making me feel all too secure. like for instance: the Bills at the Saints--i actually changed this pick so if i lose someone please remind me that i started with my pick on the Bills & went against my gut which never is a good idea. then there's the Seahawks at the Redskins--everything i read says the Seahawks are the pick to make but...i've got this nagging feeling...i hate the nagging feelings. and what about the 49ers at the Cardinals--i thought i was feeling confident in picking the 49ers but again i am faced with a strange notion that i shouldn't be picking that way. i hate games like this where it comes down to which team plays WORSE.

and of course there's the 2 games i am outright struggling with all together: the Rams at the Giants--i hate both teams so it isn't as if i am simply having a hard time picking one over the other for denial purposes. i just don't think the Rams are as good as they have been...and i don't believe the Giants are as good *gag* as they looked coming out of the Week 2 undefeated. yuck. and then there's the Eagles at the Chiefs. this one just stumps me. i want to pick the Chiefs, i really do...but they didn't look so hot on Monday night...

decisions, decisions...i have until each game's kick off to lock into my pick. and rule of thumb when your gut fails you is to give the edge to the home team. problem is of the 5 games i am not certain of yet, 2 of the home teams (Cards & Saints) aren't even REALLY playing at home. you know, because we needed to make this MORE difficult?

in slightly related news...still undefeated in my Fantasy Football League. Week 3 brought the match-up between the last 2 undefeated teams & by some miracle, i managed to pull it off with an otherwise unimpressive number of points scored. Week 4? the 2-1 highest scoring team in the league. i think this week suddenly scares me even more...

unrelated Friday morning ramblings of cameras & Quiznos

no not the stuff weird dreams are made of.

Andie loves me. she is helping me find a new camera since mine is acquiring vampire-like qualities. no not feeding off of blood. but it's VERY unhappy out in the sunlight. if you know my propensity toward being at Disney with my camera & understanding how much of Disney is OUTSIDE, you may start to grasp that i break into cold sweats at the thought of being limited with my photo-taking...and worse, that my camera is slowly giving up the will to live. =( all i know is only in bright light & no matter what i do to avoid any glare, i will get results like this:

that *should* have been a photo of the male lion at Animal Kingdom, up pacing & roaring (which he never ever does since he is usually ina state of repose on the air-conditioned rocks). the sun was actually behind me & i was in a covered safari-vehicle but i still get a bad glare that never used to be there before. happens every time there is any sort of bright daylight & the camera's definition of "too bright" is slowly expanding to include the more vague "all of outside".
as i was saying...Andie, whose camera knowledge i take very seriously, has introduced me to my potential new love:


that would be the Kodak EasyShare Z740 Digital Camera. yes...DIGITAL. *swoon* i think i'm going to go test her out this weekend just to see if the fit feels right in my hand. no sense entertaining thoughts of a new love affair if the chemistry isn't there ya know? ;-) (in case you're curious the image is a link to some more camera-related info...)

(still more) key injuries & playing with heart

what would a New England Patriots season be if not plagued by season-ending injuries to key players? an already patched together defense, with a noticeable hole left by Tedy Bruschi, Matt Light (top) was carted off the field with his leg in a cast, no formal announcement made either by his agent or the team, as to the extent of the injury--just the vague answer that the injury report would be released on Wednesday. and it's already official that Rodney Harrison (bottom) is done for the season with a torn ACL. *sigh* i know they won the Super Bowl last year with guys playing multiple positions, injuries on even the back-up players' back-ups & almost no one who *was* on the field could have really been considered healthy. but how many times can they pull off the unbelievable?!



speaking of injuries. as much as i am not an Eagles (translation: Donovan McNabb, T.O.) fan, i like a player who shows heart & dedication. i have a whole lot of respect for the Eagles kicker David Akers, who despite an injured hamstring that was causing him a good deal of obvious pain, he came out onto the field to kick the winning field goal. he did his job & then dropped to the ground in visible discomfort. but that's the kind of passion i enjoy seeing on the football field--players who don't cry about every hangnail & who tough it out on the field when the game is on the line.

remembering

was there ever a date of something not so good that stuck in your head? then you know how i feel about September 22.

9/22/00: my dad had a stroke. i thank heaven every day that he was ok. it took a lot of therapy & some major medical miracles but he came through it--he's a little slower these days but he's here & that is what matters.

9/22/01: my grandmother had a stroke. she didn't fare as well. she passed away a month later. i miss her every single day.

as you can imagine, i am not a big fan of the phone ringing on 9/22. and i am always very conscious of the date.

it occurred to me tonight though that i missed it this year. i wasn't feeling all too well Thursday so that may have been part of it...but maybe time really is the great healer. i haven't forgotten but i don't feel quite so haunted.

i think it might be safe to peek now...

this was a loooong day of sports for me. if there's anything more tormenting to watch than the Packers losing, it has to be the Packers losing to the stupid Bucs. Green Bay starts the season 0-3. =(



in case anyone is keeping track, we have a new addition to Dawn's list of "Most Annoying NFL Players". joining the likes of the Manning brothers, Randy Moss, Keyshawn Johnson & Warren Sapp (just to name a few) is Cadillac Williams. no surprise that he plays for Tampa. *rolling my eyes*



and after a *major* nail-biter, somehow the Patriots did what the Patriots do best & that's pull one out of their backside when they played a lousy first half, suffered a key defensive injury & played so sloppy on offense they were almost unrecognizeable.

thank God for halftime.

seems they got their game on when they stepped back into the locker room because when they started up the 2nd half they looked a whole lot better.

even so, in true New England fashion, they won it in the last seconds of the game on the trusty foot of Vinatieri. good thing *something* on that team is reliable.

as much as i like Big Ben & the Steelers, i don't want them to outshine my Patriots. i'm hoping they successfully got under Ben's skin & into his head...cause quite frankly, Pittsburgh is one scary team & the Patriots will need any edge they can get...

...and speaking of nail-biters, the Red Sox keep pace with the Yankees, tied for first place in the AL East. i have a feeling it's going to all come down to that least Boston/New York series. just the thought makes me feel somewhat ill...

Dear God: Why do humans smell the flowers, but seldom, if ever, smell one another?

Dear God: Why are there cars named after the jaguar, the cougar, the mustang, the colt, the stingray, and the rabbit, but not ONE named for a dog? How often do you see a cougar riding around? We do love a nice ride! Would it be so hard to rename the "Chrysler Eagle" the "Chrysler Beagle"?

Dear God: If a dog barks his head off in the forest and no human hears him, is he still a bad dog?

Dear God: We dogs can understand human verbal instructions, hand signals, whistles, horns, clickers, beepers, scent ID's, electromagnetic energy fields, and Frisbee flight paths. What do humans understand?

1. I will not eat the cats' food before they eat it or after they throw it up.

7. My head does not belong in the refrigerator.

8. I will not bite the officer's hand when he reaches in for Mom's driver's license and registration.

9. I will not play tug-of-war with Dad's underwear when he's on the toilet.

10. Sticking my nose into someone's crotch is an unacceptable way of saying "hello."

11. I don't need to suddenly stand straight up when I'm under the coffee table.

12. I must shake the rainwater out of my fur before entering the house -- not after.

13. I will not throw up in the car.

14. I will not come in from outside and immediately drag my butt.

15. I will not sit in the middle of the living room and lick my crotch when we have company.

16. The cat is not a 'squeaky toy' so when I play with him and he makes that noise, it's usually not a good thing.

as promised:
how to be obnoxious around the world in under 2 hours

go from country to country at Epcot's World Showcase with the explicit intent of hunting down mischief. which rapidly becomes how can we look the most ridiculous in international hatwear. as you are donning said head fasions, you must laugh hysterically, to the point of tears pouring down your cheeks, stomachs aching & gasping for air. once you reach the point where the laughter makes speaking nearly impossible & certainly unintelligible, target a victim--preferably an innocent tourist who is simply taking in these international cultures, but a Disney Cast Member will do if necessary--and try to ask them to take your photo, not once but twice because of course you need to get one for each camera.

if you happen to be at Epcot and see something similar to this, my suggestion to you would be to move to your nearest exit in a calm but quick manner...and then run far far away! LOL
