some wins don't feel like victories

last night's game, even though we ended up winning, felt like a loss. it was stressful and difficult to watch and a struggle from start to finish. i almost couldn't feel the joy of reclaiming half a game against the Yankees. i suppose i should take comfort in the Sox battling to stay in it and coming back with a late game win but...

mostly, i just want to forget that game happened.

two quick comments first, before i block it all from memory:

1. Dougie came up lame again in his first game back catching Wake. hamstring this time. i, personally, am eternally grateful for Kevin Cash being able to catch the knuckler. i wonder if now Wake will reconsider his announcement that he's done when Dougie's done. i know Dougie is his pal, the other half of The Wakabelli Show, but i feel like that statement was made in light of The Bard Experiment. and Cash is no Bard.
on the subject of Cash & Mirabelli, though, the Orioles announcers said something during the game last night that made me laugh in a bewildered but amused sort of way: "They have Kevin Cash, but he doesn't have the bat Doug Mirabelli has." uhhhh... huh? i wish i could have asked them what they meant by *that*. i realize Cash is hitting .109 to Dougie's .219 but it isn't like we're seeing Stud Who Hits Bombs this year or something out of our lovable back up catcher. i am willing to wager that if Cash saw as many plate appearances as Dougie has, they'd probably be pretty close. but to hear them talk about it, you'd think Dougie had Lowell's numbers!

2. and also? when the Sox are tied at 6 in the eighth inning, with bases loaded and one out, i never want to see JD Drew come up to bat again. >=[

and with that we forget about the agony last night's game provided. oh man... i hope Lestah brings his control tonight...

Oh wah. You won. Try being in the middle of a historically catclysmically collapse.

Also, Mirabelli kills the Orioles, that's probably what they were talking about.

I'm not complaining about the win, Bart. But, good grief, we looked bad doing it. I am sorry about your Orioles though. They are really the only other AL East team I like.

Thanks for clearing up the Mirabelli question. =)

I totally saw the JD Drew thing coming (well, heard, in the car, lost in Monroe)...and was shocked (SHOCKED! a la Bob Ryan) to see Varitek come through like that as a pinch hitter. Okay, maybe not shocked...he's actually pretty good as a pinch hitter.

Brain: LOL @ SHOCKED! a la Bob Ryan. I read that with perfect Bob Ryan inflection in my head too.
