i may be living in a parallel universe...

so. you're turning in a fine performance in a race. things get a little hairy & some punk runs into you. a move that eventually keeps you from being able to finish the race you had been leading. so what do you do? well, i'll you what. i certainly wouldn't be hopping in his number 5 car, after his crew fixed it all up again, but their driver seems to have disappeared, to finish the race. *and* earn him a few more points (but no points at all for myself). not unless i was making a bid for his job.

really. Junior cannot possibly just be this nice a guy. there has to be something potentially in it for him... right?

the man in black?

Gentlemen, start your trembling. There's an Earnhardt back in black.
How freaking cool is he going to look at Talladega on Sunday in honor of his father's birthday?! all three DEI cars will be sporting the black color scheme this weekend.

on Boston sports...hanging in limbo...hope for the common man...and a i had a dream

well...6-2. no complaints here. still in first place in the AL East. i know the consensus is to blame Wells but to be honest, there was just no hitting at all in last night's game. not even from old reliables like Tek or Manny. the biggest problem was that the pitching sure didn't help matters. i hope Boomer finds his groove soon. and this little bit from Surviving Grady cracks me the heck up: I'd like to be the 3,482nd person to officially point out that more than a week into the season, Bronson Arroyo has two more home runs than Manny Ramirez. Sorry, I just think that's the friggin' funniest thing ever. Who knew we had a sleeping HR hitter in the rotation huh? too bad we let him go for "I'll Swing At Any Pitch You Throw" Pena...And we've gone Cuckoo for Coco Crisp--and signed a 3-year contract extension. from what i've seen so far, i'm pleased. as long as this early trip to the DL isn't a foreboding of what's to come...

finally, FINALLY! the Patriots organization has screwed its head on straight & started thinking about working out some deals with current team members. *before* they become free agents & we lose another dozen guys that took the field the previous season. a 4-year contract extenstion for Richard Seymour sounds darn good to me. he earned a little more of my respect too by saying: "I was never interested in who's the highest-paid player," Seymour said. "At the end of the day, I'm not going to spend all this money anyway. A lot of it is just a bunch of zeros. My concern was always just that I be compensated fairly for the things I do on the football field. We came to an agreement on that. There was give and take on both sides." (please don't ruin my happiness by telling me he was probably reading a carefully scripted line...just let me be delusional & believe that he was sincere, mmm-kay?) kind of curious where these meetings between Ty Law & Bill Belichick might lead too...

in other football news (or lack there of in this case)...and you know this pains me to say it...but it's really & truly time for Brett Favre to make a decision. i know he's struggling with it, you can see it plain as day, but really...it's time. his family, his fans, his team...they've been waiting patiently & supporting him every step of the way. i think we'd all understand whichever way he goes with his decision. we just need to get to that place so we know what comes next. us...but most of all HIM. i know every great athlete believes he has just *one more* great season left. and therein lies the greatest battle--fear of giving it up too soon. i don't know if he owes it to the Pack to come back for 2006 or to bow out at this point. on the one hand, they've lost the chance to pick up free agents to better to the team because they couldn't promote any QB and they've also lost the chance to pick up one of the veteran free agent QBs to help back a very inexperienced Rivers. he almost owes them this last season for the losses they've suffered leaving his career fate up to only him. and no one can really expect a brand new head coach to step into the picture & cut Favre, The. Brett. Favre., as his first line of business. that would be career suicide in Green Bay. on the other hand, maybe he's wavered so much that it's time he leaves them to put Rivers in, trial by fire & see what he's made of, to step away quietly. i just don't know. but the media has been so unforgiving of his indecision that it makes me sad to see someone who should go out with honor & accolades ending his career with criticism & snide remarks.

all this drama over Greg Biffle's girlfriend getting up in Kurt Busch's fiancee's face over Busch taking Biffle out of last Sunday's race. Biffle's girlfriend is getting reprimanded. blah blah blah. can't have this sort of catfighting being allowed in the public eye. blah blah and more blah. the only long term effect of this "incident" (which by the way, i totally see why Biffle's girlfriend was upset & had something to say, woman to woman) is that these 2 clowns got their women in the media spotlight & now every common man in America who watches a sports clip on tv suddenly has rekindled the hope that he too might somehow land a babe way WAY out of his league.

see what i mean?? how on earth did those 2 guys end up with those 2 girls?!

and last but not least, i must thank Michelle--not to be confused with Michelle (who finally blogged, TWICE in the last 24 hours!) or Michele (with 1 L)--but Michelle who gets me wound up on football commentary & talks a whole lot of Manning trash with me, who so kindly implanted thoughts of Chad Johnson & endzone dancs in my head late last night...which is the only way i can construe that i dreamt Chad Johnson had a huge spinning recliner installed in the endzone to the side of the uprights for his next TD celebration. i don't know what's more disturbing: that i dreamt about Chad Johnson or about ridiculous endzone antics.

win some, lose some

while i would of course much rather the Red Sox win, at least the Yankees lost yesterday too. so if we have to be 1-1 so be it...and when you look at the standings, Boston is listed before NY. heh.

in other sporting news, i am very impressed with DEJr this year! nice & consistent, solid at 6th in the standings, 6 races down, 3 top 10 finishes (one at 3rd & one at 4th!), 2 more finished at 11th. his team is working more as a single unit & they aren't giving up just because there's a little mishap. he worked his way back from TWO crashes on Sunday to capture a 4th place finish right before the race ended. GO #8!

today in sports

spring training isn't even in full swing yet and already there is drama starring Manny Ramirez. seriously. how much more Manny can we take?? in case YOU haven't had enough of him yet, apparently he has his very own home on the web where we get even more of "Manny being Manny". *shaking my head*

freaking Jimmie Johnson wins the Daytona 500 and they are glorifying him that he could do it "in the wake of a scandel". this just pisses me off. this guy CHEATS and he wins...and they act like he's a hero. he should have been disqualified from the race all together, i don't care which member of his crew was at fault. the whole Jimmie Johnson team should have been ineligible. like last year when they caught him cheating & they penalized him but let him keep the win. what the hell!! he should be automatically disqualified. anyone who cheats should be. what reason does he have to play fairly now anyway? all he has to do is a pay a fine when he cheats to win.

ahhh Ricky...you just won't learn will ya...

absolute & utter DISGUST

what a piece of garbage sports week i just suffered through. *grumble grumble*

i went 7-6 in the football pool. which means again i will have at best a slightly better than .500 week. that is just aggravating. and remember those 5 games i struggled to pick? 1-4!! so if i had gone with my gut & picked the Giants, Redskins & Eagles i would have been 4-1 cause my gut was to go with the Chiefs so i'm not as ticked about that loss. at least the funny feeling about the Bills paid off i guess...

went in search of the Patriots game but the place i went couldn't figure out how to work their satellite tv so they didn't have it on, not that i wanted to see them get crushed 41-17. my poor depleted injury-stricken Patriots...

had to watch the Bucs play instead & win on a cheap reversal when the Lions should have won. that was a trash call. reverse a TD like that when there was nothing conclusive to overturn the original!! ARGHHHH!!!!

if i have to hear about "the Manning brothers" & their 8 TDs/no interceptions ONE MORE TIME, the steam coming from Central FL isn't going to be some weird volcanic activity so no one panic--it is just ME having a meltdown!! i dislike them more every time i hear their names...*gag* (i found a photo to go with this but i just can't bring myself to add their faces to my blog...)

in fantasy football, i dropped from 1st place undefeated to 3rd place. well i haven't yet but i will. as soon as Stephen Davis doesn't get me like 25 points. i'm only behind by 7 but my opponent has 2 players in tonight's game to my one...so unless the Panthers move the ball down the field a LOT using no one but Davis, i'm done.

20 laps into a race that he should have been a contender in, Dale Jr was tangled up in a crash that Jimmie Johnson caused but tried to blame on Jr. someone needs to find that cheating punk & kick his @ss. twice. *glaring*

only bright spot was the Red Sox who have clinched the AL Wildcard. but that still makes me feel kind of sick if their pitching doesn't VASTLY improve overnight.

and now i have to watch the Packers on Monday Night Football. the Packers who i HATE to see lose but i didn't pick them & i need the win in the pool, not to mention i have a bigtime Carolina running back as my only hope in fantasy football, playing against someone with Greenbay's Donald Driver (not to mention the Carolina kicker--who i hope misses everything his foot touches!)...

*sigh* believe me Tom, i feel the very same way. it HAS to go up from here...right?

hopeful?

Patriots game scares me. Packers game depresses me (yes already). Red Sox make me nervous. maybe Jr will at least have a good race in Talladega today?

yeah i know...sports sports sports. least i haven't started in on hockey yet. need to wrap up baseball first before i can take on another sports season--4 seasons overlapping all at once is complicated. =P

sweet victory

Dale Jr finally celebrates a win

Posted by Picasa

after watching him struggle the whole first half of the season, it sure was great to see Jr. back in victory lane. let's hope this is the start of a new trend with very few races left for him to sneak into the 400-point window for the race for the Cup. *crossing my fingers* it's good to see him finally running strong & consistent the last couple of races but there's still 91 points to catch if he's even going to be in the running for the Cup...

Go 8 Go!!

frustration!!

something i haven't mentioned here that may surprise one or two of you. you know of my love of football & the redsox (or if you don't by now, you haven't been following along too closely and/or paying much attentions lol), but what about the fact that i can enjoy a good NASCAR Nextel Cup race too? it's a different kind of sport than those played with a ball (or some variation there of) but it stems from my childhood attending NASCAR Modified races with my dad, mostly on Friday nights at Stafford Motor Speedway in CT. those races aren't televised though so over time i developed a taste for the ever-popular Nextel Cup circuit.

anyway, enough "history".

watched the CocaCola 600 last night, all 5 grueling hours of it, with it's record 22 cautions & by lap 200, the longest stretch of consecutive green-flag laps stood at a whopping 8. i am a big fan of the DEI racing team (especially the well know red & white of Dale Jr), who unfortunately didn't do so well last night when Jr tapped the back end of Waltrip's car sending him into a spin that resulted in a 5-car crash. with Michael Waltrip taken out of the race & Jr's car needing work that brought him back in 25 laps down, it was just another adventure in the seesaw ride Jr's been on all crappy season so far & just a bad night for the DEI team. that being said, i would have loved to see local-boy Joe Nemechek win as he gained a big lead (and yes i do actually support one local "team" as some of you know how i feel about Tampa sports frachises--BLECHHH!--but Joe is a Lakeland resident, *not* yucky Tampa) only to end up with a flat tire that took him out of the #1 position. at that point i became a HUGE Bobby Labonte (heck any of the boys at the front of the pack were welcome to a win at that point: Truex, Newman, Mayfield, Biffle, even Carl Edwards) as he expertly maneuvered & held a lead. but nope right at the very end stupid Jimmie Johnson had to sneak by for the win. and thus ended the joy of Jeff Gordon's accident taking him out of the race & Tony Stewart's 24th place finish.

just a long never-ending night ended with frustration. 5 hours spent watching one of the "Terrible Trio" (Johnson, Gordon, Stewart) claim another victory.
*grumpiness*
