the value of a lost hour

normally the reverting back & forth between Daylight Savings Time & Standard Time doesn't phase me. i've always just rolled with it. the worst i ever had it was when i was a daycare provider. nothing like trying to help 8 one-year-olds adjust their internal clocks to a whole new schedule.

anyway.

i don't know if i'm getting old or what exactly my deal is but i have been grumbling my way through this time change since Sunday morning. i was truly questioning why we need to do this. i mean, really, what is there to gain?? it's not like we actually GAIN an hour of daylight. we're just taking it off the morning & tacking it onto the afternoon. personally i find it more difficult to get up out of bed when the world is still dark like the middle of the freaking night. i was really looking for one good reason to justify why we go through the hassle of changing clocks & adapting to that lost hour.

as a little fun fact attached to an email i just received, i learned this which satisfies my need for a real benefit of any sort to this madness--as long as it's true what they say that every little bit makes a difference:

Daylight Saving Time doesn't just save daylight for us to enjoy, it also saves energy! It is estimated to reduce America's daily energy use by about one percent, a small but significant amount.
