the one that ended up not really being about baseball
for you non-baseball fans, see the last line. ;-)
if there's any way you want to start off a post season series, it's with a performance like we were given last night.
Commander Kick Ass with his complete game shut out.
Youk with a solo homer to (hopefully) show his wrist is feeling better.
a two-run blast from Papi.
Lowell driving in Manny for the fourth run.
that catch by Jacoby Ellsbury when he subbed in for Manny.
getting a chance to see our ace be an ace, our defense looking as sharp as it has all season, our 2-3-4-5 hitters being the force to be reckoned with like the hype proclaims.
so good! so good! so good!
we start it off with a win. and a decisive one, at that.
which i feel better about with The Hundred Million Dollar Pitcher showing us his October game on Friday.
but that first one is down & that's a start. ten more to go.
by the way, the best quote from last night's TBS announcers (so weird to hear DonO calling the Rockies game; these two guys that the Sox got aren't too bad, if not a little dorky from time to time, but they became the instant cool kids with comment while Beckett was on the hill):
"You can take the first pitch if you want, but it's just going to be strike one."
tonight we root for CC as he takes on the EE.
and maybe a little post season fire-and-brimstone vintage Trot. because i have to believe that he will live & die a Yankee-hater, no matter uniform he pulls on before the game.
i would have better commentary about the game but i got a phone call just as the game started from someone with some extremely exciting news to share if you give her a few days. ;-)
4 with their own thoughts:
Dawn,
Great win last night, and Beckett should have cemented the Cy Young with that outing.
You anwering the phone during the game made me smile: my wife and daughter know that if Dad is watching the Sox, he's NOT answering the phone!
Have a great day.
Ted: It was about the only phone call I would have taken during *any* Sox game, post season aside. My oldest friend (by old I mean we were 3, not that she is old by age standards, heh!) went into labor yesterday & had her baby boy. =)
Hey Dawn,
You hit a double last night!!
The Sox won a great game and you became a new Auntie!!
Congratulations!
Hope mom and baby are doing a-ok!
Thanks JMP! It was definitely a good night. =) Mom & baby were doing well when we spoke last night. Shocked & sleepy (both of them, I think!) but well. I can't wait til I get some photos to share!
