the Bruschi factor
there was criticism, skepticism & speculation. they asked if it was a good idea. can one man really make a difference on the struggling lifeless New England defense? is it worth it for him to risk coming back earlier than he initially planned? can he go out there & handle the hard hits? can he go out there & handle the hits *mentally*?
the answers? well, he DID. he was involved in 64 of 78 plays, including some on special teams. he hit hard. he made the plays when they counted. and the defense finally looked like more than a shell of its former glory for the first time all season. maybe he can't make it ALL happen but he is IS a team leader--almost the play-calling "QB of the defense". with so many young guys & back up players taking the field for a battered starting line up, a leader was definitely needed. and lead he did.
and a clutch playmaker to boot. he has chemisty with his teammates. he has a great football instinct. he has HEART & SOUL.
and could he perform? how about 2 solo tackles & 5 more assists! and the defense finally came up with a fumble recovery & an interception. something was happening on that field...now we just need the energy & momentum of his return to carry them forward because there is still much work to be done.
never mind a lackluster OFFENSE?? i was offended all right. the defense comes out breathing fire & the OFFENSE sells out? but in true Tom Brady-esque style...for the 20th time in his young career...he leads the Patriots on a 4th quarter winning drive. back to back Corey Dillon TDs & somehow...someway...it ain't pretty but New Engalnd gets it done. the boys are back.
we won't talk about MNF against Indy next week. at least it's in Foxboro...for right now though, i just want to bask in the feeling of victory.
1 with their own thoughts:
Well, I hope the boys are back. It's early, but as you said, there is much work to be done...
After a disappointing baseball season, something has to carry us through to opening day in April...
