Had to share...

...these amazing photos that my cousin Bob sent me of his trip to Holland & Belgium with his girlfriend Lyne. They are just too gorgeous not to be admired. Bob has always been one of my favorite relatives. He is actually my dad's cousin. He used to come & stay with my grandparents every so often when business brought him to CT from CA. He is just the nicest guy you have ever met & these photos make me so unbelievably happy. =) i hope they brighten up your day as well.

in no particular order, i "can't live without":

**my computer/internet access
**300+ digital tv channels but i only watch the following: abc, nbc, cbs, fox, espn, tbs, wb, upn, tlc, cmt, the food network
**music with great lyrics
**scrap supplies--even when i don't use them, i need to at least have them close enough to touch
**my camera
**ice cream sandwiches
**my girls!
**unlimited long distance telephone plan
**photos of my sweet Catherine girl
**my man =)
**a warm puppy who will occasionally curl up into me & take a nap when i do
**email conversations while i work
**AOL instant messenger

well i am sure there are a ton more, but i just started my friday off with a smile. think of those things that make your life sweet & do the same. happy friday!!

filler entry

filler entry till i can get on here tonight hopefully with some time to do better. sorry to disappoint anyone who's checking!

baseball & chemistry

as seen on a poster at my local Beef O'Brady's--liked it so here it is:

The effect of bat on ball can be explained by physics.

The effect of baseball on America?

That's chemistry, my friend.

ok so my red sox lost to baltimore last night. it's going to happen. all i know is we're better than .500 so far for the season AND our record beats the boohoo-yankees. life is good. here's to another season of Boston chemistry!

yeah i know

i've been here like 100 times now today & it's only noon. making up for lack of entries late last week i guess. ;-) i promise this one will be a little lighter than the last 2...though likely not as light as today's first little tidbit. lol all over again just remembering those furry beastuses. *grin*

just thought that i would share that it is one of those crystalline days here in the sunshine state. bright sky in that most vibrant shade of blue. brillant sun. crisp breeze. 62 degrees at the most recent check (like 10 seconds ago). brisk like an autumn day in new engalnd, minus the fiery foliage. and a bit too chilly for *this* floridian lol...

i probably shouldn't whine. today's high in detroit so far has been 31 & it's supposed to snow...ha! it's almost MAY! what is up with THAT?!

you have *got* to be kidding me

first of all, that last entry was all too appropriate. i feel like i've barely sat down here long enough to check email before launching off into errands & activity again. i really do have a load of things i should be doing right this minute but i *am* being semi-productive--there's a load of laundry going as we speak. i do hear my kitchen mocking me though "clean me! clean me! someone is going to think Thing 1 moved in here during the night!" aaaaagghhhhhh!!! say it isn't so! LOL

i really just had to take the opportunity to make some football commentary in april. ;-) any good football fan knows that today is "nfl draft day". i don't pay one bit of attention to college football so i have no clue who any of these kids are. what i DO know is that somehow some arrogant punk named aaron rodgers decided he was worth millions & had somehow deemed himself worthy of naming the price he wanted to go for. i'm told he is talented enough that he should have gone early in the first round but a lot of teams overlooked him due to his demands. he may be a great player but no college kid, not even an nfl rookie yet, has proven himself a superstar that gets to name his own price. not in my book anyway.

and now i have to deal with the fact that my nfc team, my Green Bay Packers, will potentially be one day replacing the time-tested greatness of Brett Favre with this punky little brat. i have acquired this year's recipient of the "eli manning award"...and he's not even an original in his arrogance. he's a wanna-be egotist. i sure hope he proves to be a better investment than eli was for the giants...

*rolling my eyes* kids these days.

busy

just thought i would share something else from that book i'm reading since i am too busy at the moment to get anything else down here. something to think about & i'll try to be back tonight sometime with something more...

"As kids, our stock answer answer to most every question was nothing. What did you do at school today? Nothing. What's new? Nothing. Then, somewhere on the way to adulthood, we take a 180-degree turn. We cash in our nothing for busy.
I'm starting to think that, like youth, the word nothing is wasted on the young. Maybe we should try reintroducing it into our vernacular. Nothing. I say it a few times and I can feel myself becoming more quiet, decaffeinated. Nothing. Now I am picturing emptiness, a white blanket, a couple ducks gliding on a still pond. Nothing. Nothing. Nothing. How did we get so far from it?"

randomness

ok so i'm supposed to be working. what can i say? i have a cool job & an even cooler boss (not considered to be sucking up since i am 99.9% sure he wouldn't be reading this lol) so when my work is done (for the moment) i can play online. anyway, i was surfing my favorite blogs this morning. started off on the blog link trail & found myself HERE. i love having little peeks into other people's worlds. i especially love when i find something that inspires me, makes me laugh, or causes me to stop all the pettiness & reflect or really think.

(special thanks to txtricia who i don't know & who doesn't know me, but she gets the inspiration crown this morning! i'm sure she would be sooo excited. *grin*)

made me laugh

CAR WASH

Every time I go to my local car wash, the owner peers inside, throws his arms up, and says, "Oh Miss--very dirty. Very, very dirty." I'm sorry. I didn't know I was supposed to bring it in clean.

(excerpt from "Encyclopedia of an Ordinary Mind" by Amy Krouse Rosenthal, pg. 50)

Not sure why this strikes me as so funny except that it fits well with my own dry sarcastic dead-pan sense of humor. That & my car needs a bath. Badly. Ha.

i think this is why i blog

andie was kind enough to still loan me "Encyclopedia of an Ordinary Life" when i saw her on saturday even though i was a bonehead & forgot to bring Paul Reiser's "Couplehood" with me to complete our exchange. i've been reading it slowly, just a section or 2 at a time. i would expect to see pieces of it here as what i read strikes me in one way or another--if you're not new to my blog, this doesn't surprise you at all, does it? lol

the section i'm talking about right now is this:

1986
Journal from year in Paris
I think 90 percent of what/who we are is never really
verbally communicated....
I like to write things down--moments, memories, lists, quotes, thoughts.
Compulsively sometimes.
I need to gather all the thoughts that are locked in my head and put them on
paper. Will my memory ever fail me? Maybe that's the precaution I'm taking.

(excerpt from "Encyclopedia of an Ordinary Life" by Amy Krouse Rosenthal, pg. 15)

i truly believe that this is what drives me to keep this blog, a collection of my thoughts...

only a disney fanatic...

in honor of meeting up with my andie bandie bo bandie and J today over at disney:

which disney mobster are you?

my results:

You are Tigger "The Trigger". Your head is made outa rubber and your bottom is made outa springs. What's up with that? I think that all of your bouncing is just a cover for your secret life as the gunman for the Hundred Acre Wood gang. "Whacking's what Tiggers do best!" You are currently serving as a bodyguard for Winnie the Pooh who is being hunted by Heffalumps and Woozels over a honey "misunderstanding".

casual fridays ROCK

i love casual friday. love it, love it. i am a girl happy in my levi's. levi's 505 regulars to be exact. mens. 29w 32l. medium blue. classic. i *detest* womens jeans. they either come up to your armpits or feel like they are so low they are going to make me look like a plumber. ;-) or well at least that's the way they fit on me. mens 505s though? PERFECT. snug, not too high, not too low & you can totally control waist & length to the inch. none of that obscure number sizes that no one can determine the meaning of that they call "womens sizes".

today also officially becomes known as Fun Fact Friday too. check out andie's blog!!

fridays are good.

a little sex...

...and the city that is. ;-)
something i wanted to capture before the words escaped my brain.

"and just like that, big's heart had closed again. maybe it would reopen in another 5 years. and maybe it wouldn't. but i realized that that isn't enough.
for the first time all week, i didn't cry. life's too short."

having it MY way

i can't even tell you when i last ate burger king. (ok actually yes i can but that's not important right now. or at least not the point. we'll just say it's been a while & move on if that's all right with you. if that's not all right with you...well...this is MY blog & you'll have to live with it. get your own blog & then you can have it YOUR way. lol...)

so i got a chicken sandwich. i am reading the wrapper & totally cracking up. try explaining to people why a sandwich wrapper is soooo funny. it's worth it just to see the looks you can elicit. since you can't give me looks while you read this--or if you do, i'll never be the wiser since my monitor doesn't look directly into yours--i am going to actually share with you what i find so amusing. you can laugh or not but like i said, MY BLOG. =P

on one end of the wrapper it says:

they say you are what you eat. they're wrong. you are no chicken. you know how you want it and you're bold enough to make sure you get it your way. that's why you're here, isn't it?

on another side it reads:

you know what they say: originals order originals. and you're proof. they broke the mold when they made you, didn't they? oh yeah.

and on the top is printed:

you have the right to have things your way. the right to a sandwich just how you want it. the right to eat it fast. the right to eat it slow. the right to start your own sandwich etiquette school. the right to have a one-man sandwich eating contest. the right to raise this wrapper above your head as a sign that you are king.

and last but not least on the bag is the following message:

french fries that have attempted to escape from their container only to strand themselves in the bottom of the bag are called "bagglers". bagglers are fair game. the first to open the bag and retrieve the baggler gets to eat the baggler. therefore, it is in one's best interest to be the keeper of the bag.

if you know me in any capacity, you know that i love food. i am especially loving food with some attitude lol...and a wrapper with personality.

live a little. laugh a lot. find humor everywhere around you.

she tries to explain to them...

i love when song lyrics speak to me. yes i finally went out & bought the new kenny chesney cd. it's not so much country as really mellow with alot of tropical island feel to it. steel drums & the like. sooo relaxing. i haven't taken it out of my car cd player since i walked out of walmart with it 5 days ago.

as usual, i digress lol.

there are bits & pieces of that whole cd that just touch my musical soul. i am sure they will all surafce here at one time or another but today's lyrics comes from "she's from boston"--and it's not for the obvious reasons that this song fits me in this case. (yes i realize i am not really from boston anyway but it's still new england, still part of where i came from...anyway off on yet another tangent.)

She never really knew how good it would feel
To finally find herself in a place so warm and real

never having set a foot in this state prior to the day i arrived here, i had no idea. sure i miss people & places from CT but i feel like i was born for the warmth & the slowed down pace of the FL lifestyle. even when it's rushed, it's not at that breakneck speed from up north--and i find when it's most rushed down here anyway, it's not by locals, but by tourists, probably those from up north. people down here are different too. they will chat & they are warm. this life feels good to me & i feel like i was meant to take this journey. i've learned alot about myself that i couldn't have discovered without coming here.

The girl she was in New England
Is different now and dead
while i am still me & always will be, i am definitely not the same girl in some very defining ways. i am not under the same sort of pressure to make everyone around me happy at my own expense. i don't feel like i need to impress anyone. i have evolved into someone who is learning to better understand herself & what i want from the world. i won't ever be the same girl i was back then...and i am more than ok with that.

Talks to her family now and then
Through e-mails and postcards
She tries to explain to them...
Her dreams have changed somehow
i know that i will never be able to make them understand how at home i feel here. i miss them. i wish there was a way to make the distance less & see them more but just as they aren't really wanting to relocate to FL, this is home to me & i am happy here. i can't explain to them why because i guess i *should* want to be close to those most important to me but how do i tell them that i still am in the ways the truly matter. and as much as no one who knew me before would have ever guessed that i would even consider moving 1200 miles away from where i grew up, let alone be happy & content here, this has been good for me. i may want different things than i did & i may be a different version of myself, but i am still their dawn...just a little further way & with a bit more confidence in myself to be ok out on my own.

Her toes dig deep and deeper in the sand
She's seduced by the sunsets and her new life at hand
i may not be on the beach all that much but i am digging in deep & deeper here. i have a hard time imagining myself anywhere else. even when the darn hurricanes huff & ouff & try to blow my house down. i *am* seduced by the sunsets--i've never seen anything like them here in FL. and i am captivated by so much of the peaceful tropical beauty that surrounds me. i miss autumn in new england & white Christmases...but there is just something about this area that has me hooked. and i can't wait to see where this new life will bring me next...

guess i just need to remind you all that you *can* come down & visit me here!

=)

just a little fun for my fellow red sox fans

which red sox player are you?

my results...

You Are: David Ortiz
You are "Mr. Clutch". You are content to wait on the bench until your turn at bat. You don't make too much noise until the game is on the line. You aren't too flashy or the loudest in the crowd, but whenever the Sox need you, you deliver. Big Papi.

what i love about sunday

again inspired by the lyrics of a country song: That's What I Love About Sunday by Craig Morgan

**it's still quiet at 9:15am...well except for the dog snoring like a buzzsaw lol

**the sunday paper waiting outside stuffed to the gills with such wonderful things as sales flyers & coupons & the comics. yep I only read the fluff lol.

**grocery-shopping. call me crazy but there is something comforting about unloading all those bags to see the cabinets & refrigerator fully stocked again.

**the way the whole house smells of clean laundry & Bounce dryer sheets

**nowhere to go & nothing to do leave endless possibilities. even if i don't do a darn thing, the fact that i *could* feels great.

**the country music top 40 countdown on
97.5FM WPCV which may be the best country radio station i have found yet. old stuff. new stuff. good radio personalities. they don't play the same top 10 songs over & over all day long. AND i just discovered that they finally have a link to let you listen online!

**that i know when i get up tomorrow to go to work, it will not be with dread or trepidation or any of those other feelings that used to make me want to hide in bed on sunday, in denial of the fact that the weekend was nearly over. i LOVE that i can say "i love my job!"

here's the question

So I finally watched "The Notebook" today. I am probably the last girl around to finally do so. What an awesome love story. Sad (I won't ruin it in case there are possibly a couple more of you who haven't gotten around to seeing this yet...) but sad in a way that makes it that much more real. The tidy little happy endings that Hollywood leaves us with unfortunately don't replicate themselves in real life all that often. So the sadness is sweet. And real.

But more than that, there is this one scene in the movie that has grabbed onto my brain. Noah & Allie are facing one another & facing an inevitable choice. And she doesn't know what to do. She knows that nothing about this choice will be easy because it never is when the choices are about love & people who matter to you. And Noah asks her this (and I paraphrase as best I can from memory): "What do you want? Forget about what I want, what your parents want, what he wants. What do YOU want Allie? WHAT DO YOU WANT?"

How come it seems we can never answer that question for ourselves? We base everything on what makes everyone around us happy but it will never be right until we can admit to ourselves what it is WE want. Sure love is about sacrifice & about putting someone else before ourselves. But in order to get to a place where we can live that kind of love, before we stand a chance at really being happy, somehow we need to find the answer to that question.

What do you want...?

More thinking.

nothing interesting

it occurs to me that i don't have anything interesting to say this morning. which poses the question "why am i here?" not in the broad sense, but here as in HERE lol, logged into this thing, essentially talking about nothing? maybe it's the thought that someone out there is checking in to see if i've posted anything new...maybe i just like to hear myself talk pointlessly & doing so here makes it look a little less crazy. who knows? lol

and i have nothing on the agenda for today to make myself sound better than the average bear. (makes me wonder why anyone WOULD check in to see if i have rambled on...LOL)

went over to the magic kingdom last night for a couple of hours. saw the newly re-opened "it's a small world". was worth it just to see the fresh new exterior & the transformation that the boarding que received. pretty cool stuff! (again, if i had a digital camera, i could share my photos NOW but alas you will have to wait until i finish another 14 shots on a roll of film & then remember to get it processed with the vague hope that something came out worth sharing). the inner workings are all still much the same but you can actually understand the soundtrack once again, everything is bright with a facelift of new paint & i can't be certain but i *think* the little singing doll-children (ok THAT sounds creepy lol!!) got new heads, hair & hands (also kind of a creepy thought...). oh yeah & new boats to ride in. yes, i HAVE been to disney enough times to notice all these little things with ease & assurance! how jealous are you?! i am in love with the concept known as "the florida resident's seasonal pass"--that little gem has paid for itself a thousand times over by now for sure!

before i head off to a lazy morning spent on the couch, getting harrassed by the beast & his slopped up tennis ball while i watch a borrowed copy of "the notebook", just wanna say a great big HI to my homey girls (in case any of them ever think to look in on me here) who converged & descended upon seattle yesterday!! and yes i am still pouting & jealous. i'd tell you all to behave but who's kidding who?! it would be a waste of finger strokes on the keyboard. ;-)

you may now return to your regularly scheduled programs. =)

wide awake

i guess i went to bed too early. 4:04am & wide awake. not even like i had a reason to be--just...awake. and i could tell there was no falling asleep again. joy. i'll probably be under my desk napping at noon. so here i am, enjoying the dark peaceful quiet of a house asleep--you know, like *I* should be right now?? but i'm truthfully not all that upset. the quiet is my friend. =)

off to kill some time wandering the internet & reading blogs. after all, i can justify it as doing anything even remotely productive would disturb those who apparently require far more rest than i do. ;-)

at the risk of seeming shallow

what with the post a couple days ago about my pink toes & now this one, people who don't really know me in real life are going to think i am all about physical appearances...lol...you should all know the REAL truth of it! ;-)

anyway.

what is it about a good hair day? why does that have the ability to set the whole day off in the right direction of being great? does it REALLY matter in the great scheme of things? nope! but here i am having a good hair day & i am in the best mood.

maybe i am more shallow than i thought lol....

sometimes it's just the little things

for some silly reason, it makes me happy to look down & see my feet with pink toes in sandals. in APRIL none the less. for a CT girl, that's a great concept considering i think there's still snow on the ground up there & it's typically June at least before it's sandal weather. plus there's just something girly about pink toes. i'm not sure exactly when it was that i finally caved & let myself be a girly girl but i think that's my favorite color on them. what's yours? =)

(c'mon don't be shy! i KNOW someone's reading this thing! speak up!)

Play ball!

redsox mickey (photo by me!)

Woohoo!! Another reigning champion to cheer on for a sports season. How much abuse do you suppose I'll have to endure for being a "bandwagon Redsox fan"? Of course it bears no relevance that I was born & raised in New England in a decidedly anti-New York sports teams house & the Boston teams were my "home teams" since CT doesn't have the where-with-all to support any sort of professional sports franchise. Immediately, the bitter fans of losing teams have to justify the allegiances of those who support the victor by claiming we weren't *really* fans until they won...Oh well. I'll manage. I have for 3 of the last 4 football seasons anyway so this is getting to be a commonality. So bring on the Yankees...

GO RED SOX!!

silly entertainment for the girl sitting home on friday night

What kind of dog are you?

Found a funny little quiz on Bits of Life as I was aimlessly wandering the limitless links from one blog to another. I am a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever. Has anyone even heard of this before cause I know I haven't!! LOL
